Using air conditioning in winter

By Brisk · Published 18 Dec 2025

A bedroom with a wall-mounted indoor unit above the bed.

Set it to heat, keep the outdoor unit clear, and use the rooms you live in. You do not switch the system off for six months.

Heat mode is the default for most of the year in a UK home. The indoor unit warms the room the same way it cools it in July — quietly, and only in the spaces you choose.

Leave the outdoor unit unobstructed. Leaves, covers and clutter against the grille are the usual reason a winter install underperforms.
